Who We Are -- Our Traditions
As a congregation affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), an important tradition is one of openness and variety.
You will find this tradition alive at Disciple Christian Church!
We have a tradition of inclusiveness. We enjoy sharing our walk of faith with anyone who is seeking a path of their own, regardless of differences in personal convictions or practice. Christ intended that all of his followers be one. And we strive to keep that oneness alive as our shining star.
The Lord's Supper is important to us. It's renewing and restorative powers are central to our faith. We share in celebrating it at every worship. And it is always open to all believers. Everyone is invited to share at Christ's table!
Beyond these more theological traditions, we have several traditions which are important and enjoyable.
Our worship is vital. It is a time for us to gather to rejoice in God's love. Our preaching is biblical. Our music program is fantastic. Our prayers have added significance as we pray for each other's joys and concerns.
We also have special worship services. Among these are the Holy Thursday communion service before Easter, our "Hanging of the Greens" as we enter the Christmas season and a service of carols, candlelight and communion on Christmas Eve.
Fellowship events are fun! Fellowship is an important way of bonding with one another and supporting each other. We are more than church members. We are each other's friends and family. Fellowship happens every Sunday as we gather for Sunday School and worship.
We also have numerous special events throughout the year including. Among our favorites are our regular "pot-luck" dinners (we've got some great cooks!) and our annual ice cream social. And our Christmas season activities are joyous!
We like to think of ourselves as "traditionally untraditional." All of the important times of worship and fellowship are provided in an open and affirming atmosphere. And we add new traditions from time to time.
You are invited to experience our traditions this Sunday or any time!
